Find your joy during National Library Week
National Library Week is April 19–25, 2026
“Find Your Joy,” at the Library this April during National Library Week. The American Library Association and The City Library urge one and all to to explore their local library and discover what sparks joy.
Here’s how Salt Lakers found joy at The City Library in our last fiscal year:
- By being one of 58,484 people who attended a program or event.
- By borrowing from the Library! Cardholders checked out 1,679,356 books, movies, comics/manga, zines, CDs, Discovery Kits, Literacy Kits, or Bookclub Kits.
- By borrowing digital items online. You checked out 1,243,970 eBooks, audiobooks, or eMagazines.
- By signing up for a Library Card, or encouraging a friend or loved one to sign up. The City Library welcomed 19,905 new cardholders last year.
- By visiting one of our nine locations, like the 1,200,208 who visited The City Library in person.
Stories of Impact
Libraries can be life changing in all sorts of way, big or small. Here’s a story from one of our branch Teen Services Librarians:
“In 2024, my Teen Squad volunteer applied for a job to be a Paraprofessional working with children in the Salt Lake City School District! I was honored to serve as a reference check for her, as well as writing her a letter of recommendation detailing her work with children on the Teen Squad. She ended up getting the job! Which is cool, because the Salt Lake City Public Library is working with the youth of SLC, one of whom then turned around to help the youth of SLC herself.”
